So -- my builder used a circular saw. He cut two 4 inch long cuts, broke out the middle with a hammer and called it good. Ended up with an 8"x16" vent on top of a 1"x4" hole. Lazy son of a b.

We use a long water level tube to go all the way around to lay out our siding. Always works, always handy. Never fails

Couldn’t you split the distance in half, thirds etc? Support the line with a nail or screw at level. Use that point to anchor the line to and snap multiple lines?

why would the chock line droop? you must not have pulled tight enough. but if you think its cuze the wall cant you tie a stringline tight mark where the line is then snap it in a few diff spots?

A laser level is nice but on older homes you want to build with the house now with what's perfectly level.

You don't need a mattress. Never go to sleep, that is how you beat the system and save money.

Some extra manipulative things I've run into during my search. 1. Heat lamp demonstration- they tell you that their window is better because it blocks more heat but they are the ones bringing both their windows and competitors. I can't identify a specific competitor window by look. The u factor in the window rating already measures that. 2. They tell you that they have a special sealing technology that only they have- like a foam strip instead of metal- a lot of windows this or something similar to this is available if you ask.

Haha about motion sensor, I think they mostly are for scaring someone off in the middle of the night. I was just going to buy new flood light but after looking for hours on internet I saw that I could get a LED flood with hardwired wi-fi camera, motion sensor, dimmer with all kind of settings in the free app, it is bright too!!!! It was 89 bucks at HD so couldn't resist. Plus it has built in siren and two-way talk, just couldn't beat price. It was boxed up like an iphone too, real nice and even has silicon rubber seal on the mount. But I was trying to find about more about these plastic boxes used on siding so thanks for your great video. I got my light on but not tight enough to snug seal up so will mess with it now with you advice. But back on light looks like it is all sealed up too.

Yes many good points. I have learned over the years. Junk today. Quality is hard to find in products and installation. And it will cost you and windows have bad wood now days so not like my Grandparents days when homes had good wood.

The contractors who tore off the clap boards and installed siding on my house left the junction boxes free floating behind those vinyl lighting boxes. I have no idea how I'm going to now correctly mount a new light fixture to it. #somecontractorssuck
